Commission Embarks on Year-Long Commemoration of the Gettysburg Address
The Utah Commission on Civic and Character Education has joined with GettyReady to engage students, parents and community members in a year-long commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. GettyReady, a Utah non-profit, will be launching this initiative on Constitution Day (September 17th) with a press conference in Richfield, Utah, hosted by Governor Gary Herbert and Lt. Governor Greg Bell. American Ride's Stan Ellsworth will also be on hand to visit with the students about Abraham Lincoln and the historical context of the Gettysburg Address.
During this year-long commemoration, students and community members will be asked to memorize the Gettysburg Address and then apply the larger values and lessons from the Gettysburg Address to modern life. For more information about this exciting Commission partnership visit www.gettyready.org.
